High St Cemetery Hingham, MA - Many of Glen Parker's Ancestors Buried Here - John Tower Sr and Samuel Lincoln Great-Grandparents

Glen Parker's 9th Great-Grandfather

John Tower Sr. 14 May 1609 – 13 February 1701 - LC6G-Q6T

John was baptized in May, 1609 in Hingham, England.
John left England and arrived in Massachusetts on June 1, 1637 and married Margaret Ibrook on February 13, 1638 in Charlestown.

He was one of the proprietors of Hingham, Massachusetts where he settled on Bachelor's Row (now Main Street). He initially started out with three acres of land and through the years purchased more acreage. He had also purchased some acres in Cohasset (then part of Hingham).
In 1645 he was one of the seven men chosen to oversee the prudential affairs of the town.
Some of the occupations that he was listed as having been: farmer, planter, way-warden, constable, and fence-viewer.
In 1675, during King Philip’s War, John was allowed to fortify his house with a garrison.

His house, today known as the Tower Homestead, near Tower Brook, Tower’s Bridge, and Tower Brook Road, still stands. [Although, according to William R. Cutter’s Genealogical and Personal Memoirs published in 1908: “Three of his sons built houses on this lot also, and some of the lands have remained in the possession of descendants to the present time. The old house was torn down soon after 1800.”]

*This little grave marker "Baby Lou" seemed a bit out of place in this plot, but we took a picture and Glen did some research when he got back to the computer.  It turned out that she was buried near her grandparents, but had never been connected to her own family or sealed to her parents!  Babies are often forgotten and missed in family history records.  Bev felt that Baby Lou's mother had waited long enough to get this baby sealed to her!  She did the proxy sealing a few days later while helping at the temple.
This is only one example of how we are led to find other family members we know not of...
This has been an amazing blessing we have received over and over on this mission to New England.
