 Martha's Vineyard Tornado Warning

Around 6:00 pm we had just come back from a beautiful evening walk downtown and we received this alert.  There was potential for a tornado in Martha's Vineyard.  It lasted for about 1 1/2 hrs.  No tornado, but lots of wind and rain!

See the bright red on the bottom.  That completely covers Martha's Vineyard.

  • Bev spoke on broadening our view regarding Welfare and Self-Reliance.  Everyone is "a person in need" at some time in our lives, generally many times, and in many ways.  We need to be self-reliant both temporally and spiritually.  The two great commandments are to love God and to love others.  We must be self-reliant in order to help others in addition to ourselves and our families.  We are always in the process of becoming self-reliant as we progress through life to return to our heavenly home.

  • I spoke on one of the keys to self-reliance: gratitude.  As we express gratitude for what we have been given, I feel that the Lord can expand upon those gifts. I love the story of Christ feeding the 5000+ with two fishes and five loves in Matthew 14:13-21.  The apostles could see only what they lacked.  Christ took what they had and gave thanks to God, blessed it, and magnified it.  I feel that He can do the same for us as we express gratitude to Him for the blessings and gifts He has given us instead of focusing on what we lack.
